Well, Bigger than T-Rex is officially over. It's funny, we had people yesterday coming to the Museum or telling me they needed to come so they could see the dinosaurs. Sorry! I don't know how much more we could have announced it.
These dinosaurs were a huge success for us. From January until it closed in May, we had over 13,000 people walk through our doors. That's huge!!! The best part was seeing kids bring their parents back and telling them all about what they learned on their school tour. I've said it before, I love when families learn together.
Saying goodbye to these dinosaurs is bittersweet. I will miss walking into the gallery and seeing Skippy (the name I gave to the baby t-rex from Jurassic Park). I will actually miss the roaring. To me, they started to sound like whales and it became very soothing. I don't think, however, that the people I talk to on the phone will miss the roaring. It's been such a good show but we know it's time to move on.
As we move on, we have to completely shift gears. We go from dinosaurs to Andy Warhol paintings. I love that we are a museum that can go from what seems like one extreme to the next. I know Andy Warhol will draw in a slightly different crowd than dinosaurs but I'm hoping that people take this opportunity to come and see something new and something completely unique for this area. Museums are the perfect place for these new experiences. We aim to not be intimidating, someplace you can feel welcome.
So whether you visit our museum or another museum don't be afraid to go in and learn something new. In fact, take someone else with you and discuss what you've learned!
