Ants

This is the second part to last week’s entry.  You’ll remember the story of the scorpion and the ants.  How did the ants win?  They are so tiny!  Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen to millions.  Larger colonies consist mostly of wingless, sterile females who are the workers; fertile male drones; and fertile female queens.  Ants can be found all over the world.  They have an interactive teaching system and work together to preserve the colony.  Studies have shown that ants can withstand pressures up to 5,000 times their own body weight.

While talking with her neighbor, Chris Anderson Bradbery noticed a long line of ants going from her neighbor’s yard to her own.  They decided to follow the line of ants.  Turns out there was another long line of ants coming from the other neighbor’s yard.  The two ant lines were meeting in the middle of Chris’ yard in battle.  Battle of the ants!  One line was red/brown and the other was black.  The red/brown ones seemed to be raiding the black ants’ nest.  The red/brown ones were carrying white egg sacks back across two yards to their own nest.  It was no wonder the black ants were fighting so hard!
