Over-due

Well this post is way overdue.

We still have Bigger than T-Rex on display and it looks like it's going to be our biggest show to-date.  Audiences have really enjoyed having these dinosaurs in Lea County.  We have school tours arriving everyday to visit Giganotasaurus.  If you haven't seen the exhibit yet, tomorrow, Saturday, March 29 will be the perfect day.  Tomorrow is Family Fun Day.  The entire day is FREE admission but the family fun only lasts from 10am-3pm.  You can not only see the exhibit but you can make dinosaur crafts, watch a movie about dinosaurs and hear Spencer Lucas from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque, NM.  He is going to be speaking in the theater at 11am and 1pm.  We'll have one more Family Fun Day after this one on April 27 from 10am-3pm.  The featured speaker for that one will be Don Lessem, creator/owner of Bigger than T-Rex.

The North Gallery is open, once again.  The North Gallery will, eventually, be our new permanent exhibit gallery but that project is going to take up to two years.  Until then, we have put out a lot of our artifacts from storage.  We're calling this "visible storage".  There is little to no interpretation and no story-line.  We tried to group similar objects together, but really, this is just a chance for you to see some of the objects in our collection.  Many of these objects are out in the open with no barriers and we ask that you still respect these as museum objects and please do not touch.

We have a new e-newsletter that goes out every Thursday.  Because of this e-newsletter we can keep you more up-to-date with the happenings of the Museum.  This weekly email will not only tell you about the upcoming events and exhibits, it will feature stories about the museum, staff, objects and more.  You can opt-out any time.  If you'd like to receive this e-newsletter please sign up here.

Spring break for New Mexico Junior College starts one week from tomorrow.  Usually the Museum follows the schedule of the JC, but we wanted to be open to give people a chance to visit Bigger than T-Rex.  Therefore, we will have special spring break hours:

Sat-Sun, April 5-6:  1-5pm
Tues-Sun, April 8-13:  1-5pm

Also, the following week is the Easter weekend and, once again, the JC is closed, but the Museum will be open the Saturday of Easter weekend.  That weekend looks like this:

Good Friday, April 18:  Closed
Saturday, April 19:  Open 10am-5pm
Easter Sunday, April 20:  Closed

Starting this Sunday, March 30, we will be showing dinosaur movies as we countdown to the end of Bigger than T-Rex on May 1.  Movies are Sundays at 2pm.

March 30:  Walking With Dinosaurs (1999) BBC Production.  Walking with Dinosaurs set out to create the most accurate portrayal of prehistoric animals ever seen on the screen. Combining fact and informed speculation with cutting-edge computer graphics and animatronics effects, the series took two years to make.
April 6:  The Land Before Time (1988)  Five orphan dinosaurs travel the ruins of their world, while grieving the loss of their families and banding together to face the odds of survival.
April 13:  Disney's Dinosaur (2000)  An orphaned dinosaur raised by lemurs joins an arduous trek to a sancturary after a meteorite shower destroys his family home.

April 27:  Jurassic Park (1993)  During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.

After the dinosaur movies are over, the Sunday Classics Film Series will return with Great Classic Westerns.  Have a favorite classic Western?  Let us know!

Looking ahead, Andy Warhol: Legends from the Cochran Collection will open on May 15.  And we're planning an Andy Warhol-sized party for the opening.  You won't want to miss this one!

I think that covers everything that is coming up or that has happened recently.  I hope you can join us for some of these exciting events.
