Missing Pieces of History

I have to share this article from the Los Angeles Times with all of you. No, it’s not directly tied to our Museum but at the same time it really is. For the longest time thefts in museums, libraries, and archives were hidden from the public. These institutions didn’t want the public to view them as less credible or like they didn’t have proper security. The problem is, even with great security things happen. People find a way to get what they want no matter the situation. Institutions all across the world have problems with items being stolen, or damaged, and as the article states, the National Archives are no exception. The great thing about living in this age is the fact that so much technology can really help with searching for missing items. While investigators still keep an eye out at collector’s shows, EBay is an easy way for thieves to make money off of their loot but it is also a very public place where anyone can report the thieves to the authorities if only they know what to look for. Definitely check out this article below and if you want more information look up this group of treasure hunters on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/archivalrecoveryteam) or check out the National Archives’ website (http://www.archives.gov/).
